Convoy to help locals and supplies get between Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay

|

Ex-Tropical Cylone Hale update:

From tomorrow, Friday 13 January, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will operate a convoy system between Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay.

It will operate Friday and Saturday 14 January only.

For motorists wanting to head south from Tokomaru Bay, please meet around the Four Square area.

The convoy will leave at:

  • 10am
  • Noon
  • 2pm

For motorists wanting to head north from Tolaga Bay, please meet along by the rugby grounds.

The convoy will head north at:

  • 11am
  • 1pm
  • 3pm

The convoys will be guided by a Downer Group vehicle in the front and the back of the convoy.

Motorists are asked to please adhere to the designated times – public outside of these hours will not be able to return in either direction.

The road conditions remain a concern and motorists will be asked to drive in the middle of the road, maintain a safe following distance and adhere to a 30km/h speed limit.

Elsewhere, all Coromandel highways affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Hale have reopened this evening.

State Highway 25 (SH25) between Tapu and Te Puru is now open under 50 km/h temporary speed limit.

Geotechnical engineers have also given the green light to open SH25 at an earlier rockfall site between Tararu Creek Road and Ngarimu Heights Road.

State Highway 25A is also open but under a temporary speed limit of 50km/h and caution is advised because the road may be slippery in places.

In the Hawkes Bay, State Highway 2 opened at 5pm between Tangoio and Tūtira.

A reminder for Gisborne road users that there will be an emergency closure of Gladstone Road Bridge from 7pm tonight (Thursday 12 January) until 6am tomorrow and again overnight tomorrow, Friday 13 January.
