Lower North Island/Upper South Island - Planned state highway roadworks

Important information for drivers:

North Island:

  • Aranui o Te Rangihaeata – Transmission Gully project works will be underway on State Highway 58 near Bradey Road on the nights of Friday, 8 December and Friday, 15 December. Drivers can expect short delays when travelling through this area.
  • There will be a Christmas Parade in Featherston on Saturday (11 am – 1 pm) and in Carterton on Sunday (2 pm to 4 pm). State Highway 2 will be closed during these events, but local road detours will be available.
  • Monthly State Highway tunnel maintenance will be carried out in Wellington Monday through Thursday nights. The closures will run from 9 pm to 4:30 am. The Terrace Tunnel will be closed Monday night, Mount Victoria Tunnel on Tuesday, and the Arras Tunnel on Wednesday and Thursday. Drivers travelling through the Wellington CBD must factor this into their travel plans.

South Island:

  • A Christmas Parade is being held in Tākaka this Saturday between 9:30 am and midday. State Highway 60 will be closed between Motupipi and Reilly Streets. Local road detours will be available.
  • Drivers travelling on State Highway 60 between Richmond and Mapua may experience traffic delays on Saturday. A market event near Appleby could see extra vehicles on the route between 11 am and 4:30 pm.
