New asphalt surface for SH26 Avenue Road

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising the intersection of SH26 and Avenue Road in Morrinsville will have a new asphalt surface laid to help improve safety and resilience.

Director Regional Relationships Ross I’Anson says this is a very busy intersection and safety is a top priority for us, especially as we head into the winter months.

The work will take place between 6am and 6pm on Tuesday 14 May and Wednesday 15 May. The Asphalt surfacing follows on from the installation of a centre island widening of the corners on Avenue Road South.

“We are also investigating what the best long-term solution is for this intersection, which may could include building a permanent roundabout or the installation of traffic lights”.

“In the meantime a temporary roundabout may be installed, and we expect to have a decision on this by the end of June,” says Mr I’Anson.

The option to extend the 50kmph and 70kmph zones further away from the intersection is also being investigated.

As part of the resurfacing works, Avenue Road North will be closed at the intersection with SH26 and vehicles will be detoured via McRae Street and Anderson Street on 14 and 15 May.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
