Papamoa slip lane to close next week

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising that the State Highway 2 Papamoa slip lane near the Te Maunga roundabout will be closed from the early hours of Monday 24 June 2019.

The slip lane is currently where the embankment for the new SH2/SH29A east-bound flyover will be built. The closure will allow service relocation works to continue, followed by preparation of the stone column platform.

The slip lane is expected to remain closed until the new flyover opens in late 2020.

The Transport Agency closed the slip lane on 5 June for a one-week trial to validate the predicted traffic modelling on traffic flow and overall journey times.

Project Manager John McCarthy said the real traffic scenario reflected the computer modelling.

“The trial allowed us to fully visualise the traffic flow demands and determine if the real traffic scenario supported the computer modelling, which predicted closing the slip lane would have little impact on overall journey times.”

The Transport Agency thanks the community for their patience during this time.
