Reminder: State Highway 1 Picton elevation night works planned this month

|

Night Works: People travelling between Picton and Blenheim need to be ready for nighttime stop/go traffic management on the route from 15 April.

The date for beginning  the night works has been pushed back by an extra week (previously 8 April). This is because the road requires more excavation than anticipated.

SH1 Picton Elevation, slow lane excavation work.

Traffic controls are needed at the Picton Elevation, just south of Picton, as contractors continue work to restore a slow vehicle lane at the site.

It means the area will be subject to stop/go traffic controls between 6 pm and 6 am (Monday to Saturday) from Monday, 15 April.

Drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Contractors will also prioritise north-bound ferry traffic.

Day works

The night works are just part of the ongoing repairs at the Picton Elevation. Contractors are working during the day as well. However, the highway remains open, but under a 30 km/h temporary speed restriction  between 7 am and 5:30 pm.

Works description

Contractors are working hard to have this section of highway and its slow vehicle lane fully restored next month.

They are repairing the slumped road surface in the slow vehicle lane and installing new culverts across the full width of the state highway. New sumps and drainage channels are being built on the eastern side of the road, and new outlets and bank protection on the western side.

The repairs and associated traffic management mean drivers can expect short delays when travelling through the site. It is important road users factor this into their travel plans and allow extra time for their journey.

It is also essential drivers obey all traffic management and temporary speed limits. They are there to keep contractors and road users safe.
