Road works to get underway on South Road, Hāwera in the new year

|

Road repair works on South Road (SH3) in the centre of Hāwera will get underway early next year.

Work will be carried out between Princes Street and Disraeli Street from Monday 6 January for approximately six weeks, weather dependent. Contractors will be on-site between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Systems Manager Mark Owen says the road will be closed to northbound traffic for the duration of the works so motorists will be diverted down Puriri Street onto Manawapou Road.

“There will no access on or off South Road between Disraeli and Regent streets. Motorists will still be able to enter Regent Street if travelling south on South Road, but there will be no exit from Regent Street onto South Road,” says Mr Owen.

Footpaths will remain open throughout the works and cyclists can either follow the posted diversion routes or dismount and use the footpath through the works area.

“We are doing as much of the work as we can in the school holidays to help minimise disruption to school runs. However, work will still be underway for a short time when school goes back,” says Mr Owen.

“We are asking people to please use Dives Ave for drop off and pick-ups to Hāwera Intermediate and Kauri Cresent for Hāwera Primary.”

"The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience while it completes this essential road maintenance."
