SH2 down to one lane north of Raupunga

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 2 is down to one lane 5.5km north of Raupunga, between Napier and Gisborne, due to significant subsidence in the southbound lane.

The remaining northbound lane is currently under traffic light control with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place.

Contractors are regularly monitoring the site.

Hawke’s Bay System Manager Maintenance and Operations, Martin Colditz, says the subsidence looks to be the result of heavy and sustained rainfall.

“This will not be a quick-fix and people should expect the road to remain single-lane for some time.

“We will need to undertake investigations to understand the underlying cause before we are able to identify and progress design for the appropriate fix.

“Engineering resource is significantly stretched across the country at the moment due to the large number of weather and geological events”

“This means we don’t yet have a timeframe for repair, but will keep the community informed as work on this progresses.”

In the meantime, it is important people adhere to the temporary speed limit and traffic light controls to help keep everyone safe.

“Please be patient and allow additional time for your journeys,” Mr Colditz says.

Waka Kotahi thanks everyone for their patience and understanding.
