State highway 6 near Makarora re-opens at 3pm today

A section of State highway 6 about 15km south of Makarora that’s been closed by a major slip since early Thursday morning, re-opens at 3pm today, Saturday 28 June 2014.

A single lane will be available initially and motorist are urged to extra care.  There won’t be any night time closures operating at this site between Hawea and Makarora.

Clearing work at the rock fall site 15km south of at Makarora will continue for the next few and days motorist can expect minor delays.

Meanwhile, the night time closure of SH6 at Diana Falls near the Haast Pass that have been  in place for several months will continue. Access from the Haast end of the highway will be closed from 4pm daily and at the Makarora township at 4.30pm. Both ends of the highway will re-open each morning at 8.30am.
