Anyone heading to Christchurch International Airport tonight through to Monday at 6am needs to add an extra 20 minutes to their journey time calculations, says the NZ Transport Agency.
The NZ Transport Agency advises of the following closures for motorway improvements. Closures start at 9pm and finish at 5am, unless otherwise stated. The NZ Transport Agency is opening State Highway 73 over the weekend with two lanes and speed restrictions past the Deception Point slip on the Lower Otira Gorge.
The reopening of State Highway 73 through the lower Otira Gorge and past the large Deception Point slip has gone well for the past three days, says NZ Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright. “Drivers have been patient, driving cautiously and glad to get the route reopened, albeit with delays.”
Motorists will start to notice changes to some motorway direction signs in preparation for the opening of the Waterview Tunnel in April and the greater Western Ring Route.
Traffic signals are being trialled on the Maruia River Bridge on State Highway 65 just north of Springs Junction. The signals will start working either later today or first thing tomorrow, January 27, once all the road markings are in place.
