The NZ Transport Agency has awarded the contract for construction of a new two-lane bridge across the Taramakau River to Fulton Hogan, paving the way for work to begin next month.
The NZ Transport Agency advises that State Highway 6 is closed at South Westland’s Jamie Creek, near Lake Paringa, between Haast and Fox Glacier, by a washout.
"Avoid delays and disruption to your travel this busy summer road work season,” is the message from the NZ Transport Agency, as they gear up for another busy road works maintenance and construction period.
The NZ Transport Agency’s maintenance team will be resealing the one-lane Wainihinihi Bridge at Turiwhate, half way between Jacksons and Kumara next week, weather permitting.
With traffic already building on key highways, the NZ Transport Agency encourages everyone heading off for a break to “know before you go” and check the Agency’s Labour Weekend Hotspots map.
Drivers are advised to expect significant delays getting through Templeton west of Christchurch thismorning as the highway was earlier closed due to a crash. Given the busy time of the morning, traffic is backed up.
Note: an earlier Transport Agency report recorded a motorcyclist involved in this crash – it is a two car collision.
A crash between two cars this afternoon has affected State Highway 88 at St Leonards, Dunedin. A detour using local roads is available for cars/light vehicles, however, there is no alternate route for heavy vehicles.
The NZ Transport Agency reminds all drivers heading towards Aoraki/ Mt Cook this weekend to build in some extra time. There will be marathon runners and cyclists on this scenic highway both Saturday and Sunday, 8 am to 2 pm.
A crash 15 km west of Hanmer Springs has closed State Highway 7 after midday today. An update will be available at 2 pm on the NZ Transport Agency’s web site or via social media links.
