Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is continuing work to make State Highway 58 safer for everyone who uses it. Planning work has begun for the final stage of improvements, including new roundabouts at two key intersections, while construction continues on the current stage.
March has seen a large increase in roadworks across Taranaki as contractors work hard to complete an ambitious programme of reseals for the region’s state highways.
Better regulation means better safety on our roads, and today Waka Kotahi starts consultation on changes to fees and charges needed to pay for an effective regulatory system for land transport in Aotearoa.
People are advised to plan ahead for roadworks on State Highway 3 north of New Plymouth, with works taking place at both the Awakino Tunnel Bypass and on Mt Messenger next week.
The full closure of Pohuehue viaduct on State Highway 1 south of Warkworth, will now occur on Monday 21 March, not on Sunday night as previously advised.

Road contractors across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty state highway network are working as hard as possible, whilst managing positive COVID-19 cases and a poor weather forecast for late-March.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says the completion of a huge amount of work on the Transmission Gully motorway over summer has brought the road to a stage where Waka Kotahi is confident that it is safe for public use, and it has instructed the contractor to open the road to traffic before the end of this month.
