Background

There is a lot more traffic travelling through Ashhurst since the State Highway 3 Manawatū Gorge route closed.

We are making changes to improve safety and help reduce noise in the town until Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Tararua Highway opens.

The changes have been developed in partnership with Palmerston North City Council and local residents.

You can view the draft designs in greater detail on the Draft designs page (click on the ‘Project maps’ filter).

These designs have been created in partnership with Palmerston North City Council and Ashhurst locals. We have held community information sessions and met with residents living in the streets where we are working to get their feedback on our plans.

You can also get involved and tell us what you think by emailing the team at ashhurst@nzta.govt.nz

What’s next?

In 2020 we’ll be working on the town centre, around Salisbury Street and the nearby local roads.

While this work is underway, we’ll keep planning and designing other changes and update you as things progress.

We’re focused on calming traffic and improving safety.
