The natural environment benefit cluster comprises benefits relating to water, land and biodiversity. Changes to the natural environment result from the development, use, operation and maintenance of the land transport system. This benefit cluster may therefore be applied to a wide range of investments.

Water, land and biodiversity have value in and of themselves as fundamental building blocks of Aotearoa’s natural environmental system. They support our way of life and have intergenerational benefits.

This benefit cluster is related to benefit cluster 12. Changes to te ao Māori values, recognising the importance of the environment in te ao Māori (the Māori world view).
