The Transport Services Technical advice note (TAN) is a formal memo which keeps all relevant people up to date and aware of any new releases, interim acceptances, changes and updates to technical information, specifications, legislation, etc in relation to highway projects.

This is being used in place of the email memos you may have been receiving from the technical teams across the Transport Services group.

The Technical advice note series should be seen as the one source of truth associated with changes to our technical requirements.

It is sent to registered users, both internal and external to the NZ Transport Agency.

#19-14 SM030 Professional Services Contract Proforma Manual update Amendment 9

This note confirms that amendment 9 of the NZ Transport Agency’s SM030 Professional Services Contract Proforma Manual published in October 2019 is available on the Transport Agency’s website for download. This amendment to the SM030 Manual shall be implemented immediately for future contracts.

This notice advises contractors and contract managers that the health and safety expectations for NZ Transport Agency works have changed.   The new expectations will come into effect from 1 October 2019 and should be applied to all contract works.

#19-08 Release of the new M6 specification for sealing chip

This notice advises that the new sealing chip specification is available to be used for all future chipsealing works.   The new specification will come into effect immediately and should be applied to all upcoming chipsealing works in the State Highway Programme.

This notice advises that the new performance-graded asphalt binder specification is available to be used for all future asphaltic concrete works.   The new specification will come into effect immediately and should be applied to all upcoming asphaltic concrete surfacing works in the state highway programme.

#19-05 Treatment of flush and bleeding road surfaces

This notice provides the guidance to assist maintenance contract managers to more easily respond to proposed works aimed at remedial works for areas of binder rise.   The guidance has been released, will come into effect from 1 April 2019 and should be applied to all resealing works in the Maintenance Renewals Programme.

#19-04 Launch of the Standard safety intervention toolkit for the Safe Networks Programme

This notice advises that the draft Standard safety intervention toolkit is available to assist project managers to more easily apply the Safe Network Programme funding model.   The draft toolkit has been released, will come into effect from 14 March 2019 and should be applied to all works in the Safe Network Programme.
